Creating Careers with Heart: DOM’s Commitment to Dalby’s Future

For over 80 years, DOM Distribution has stood as a pillar in the Western Downs—growing from a humble machinery supplier to a forward-thinking industry leader. But at its core, DOM has always been about more than machines—it’s about people.

Led by fifth-generation farmers Pat and Shelley O’Brien, DOM’s mission is grounded in its values: Family, Heart, Boldness, and Passion. It’s these principles that have shaped a business not only focused on innovation but also on creating meaningful jobs and long-term careers right here in Dalby.

“As we grow our capabilities, we want the young people of Dalby to be part of this—giving them the opportunity to experience the world from their town,” says Managing Director Pat O’Brien.

This isn’t just talk. DOM has ramped up investment in apprenticeships and traineeships, creating real pathways for locals to thrive professionally—without leaving their community.

Just ask Loren, who joined DOM in 2024. After completing her Certificate III in Business with DOM Distribution, Loren is now building a career with purpose, surrounded by people who genuinely want her to succeed.

Or Elliot, who came on board through the BJ Hydraulics team. He was midway through his fitter and turner training, he’s now officially qualified and part of DOM’s growing pool of skilled professionals.

These stories are no accident—they’re the result of a business that believes in building each other up, being open and respectful, and embracing bold innovation that puts people first.

As DOM pushes into automation and continues leading across agriculture, mining, and construction, one thing remains constant: a deep, authentic commitment to its people and its place.

Because at DOM, doing big things doesn’t mean leaving town—it means giving it a go and backing it with our bold motto: Let’s make it happen.

“There’s no one in the community that doesn’t want the best for their children or friends and family. We’re the same. That’s what we want for our region.” – Pat O’Brien
